Crazy it’s already approaching the end of the year.
It’s always crazy how every year just seems to get faster. I know this one was already a big one with the new house and actually trying to take writing more seriously, but it’s kind of funny how small everything seems looking back. Feels like I’ve been living here for ages.
What’s funny is with all the things that have been going on in the background and foreground, I’ve been working off and on studying for a certification. Last year, I decided I wanted to try working toward a Linux Sysadmin Certification. Why? Honestly, because I’ve just had such an interest in computers since switching to Linux that I really wanted something to express that.
I haven’t mentioned on here, but I actually got my education in business and accounting. I’ve always been a math guy. However, I was never much into computers until high school. Even then, that just helped me appreciate what they’re used for. It was during Covid, with the abundance of time, that I actually started to understand what I could do with a machine.
Since then, I’ve had fun adding to my tech stack, changing how I handle stuff or understand things, or what tools I use. It’s gotten to a point that I’ve become one of those de facto IT supports for friends and family along side my brother who actually is a full fledged tech guy. I looked at the certification as a way of honestly saying “yeah, I get this”.
I’m still finishing up the rest of the course and I’ve got the test next week. Processes and networking have definitely been the newest things to me and will be things I’ll look over especially. If alls well and done, I’ll have another little thing to boast about under my belt. What I’ll do afterwards is anybody’s guess.
By the way, in case you’re curious I got the Christmas lights, I found them while scrolling my Mastodon. Special thanks to Matt Wood for showing these off. I love them!
